Neil Brody, M.D. and Michael Drosner, M.D. provide tips for using the Ellipse I²PL™ Systems With the introduction of the Ellipse I²PL™ intense pulsed light system, patients have the opportunity to experience non-surgical treatment for a wide range of skin imperfections. The Ellipse Flex® and the Ellipse Light®, both members of the Ellipse I²PL family, provide safe, simple and non-invasive treatments which feature the patented I²PL technology designed to reduce the risk of side effects to the surrounding skin.
Neil Brody, M.D., a dermatologist at the Brody Dermatology Center in Manhasset, New York, uses the Ellipse Light for treatment of vascular lesions and for photorejuvenation of sun-damaged skin. Michael Drosner, M.D., a dermatologist at the Cutaris Center in Munich, Germany uses the Ellipse Flex for a variety of skin conditions. Both dermatologists have experienced positive results with the Ellipse I²PL system and offer the following tips and techniques for practitioners using the Ellipse Flex and Ellipse Light for cosmetic treatments. Conduct the following prep work before Ellipse treatment. Both Dr. Brody and Dr. Drosner stress the importance of an initial consultation with the patient to discuss realistic expectations. By addressing both the patient's needs and the capabilities of the pulsed light system, practitioners are ultimately able to better achieve the patient's desired outcome. Once ready to begin the treatment, practitioners should also ensure that any make up on the patient's face has been removed. The treatment will be most effective on clean, bare skin. Consider these tips during Ellipse treatment. For Ellipse Light treatment, Dr. Brody suggests practitioners use a coupling agent to cover the entire area, as it helps to achieve a faster and more consistent treatment. Practitioners using a power table for treatment on a patient's face should place the table as low as possible. When the practitioner's arms are in a low position, it is easier to control the patient's head and adjust the patient's face so that it is out of the bright intense pulsed light flash. Dr. Brody also recommends practitioners learn how to blink in the same frequency as the intense pulsed light, for more effective results. For Ellipse Flex treatment, Dr. Drosner encourages practitioners to take advantage of the unique Programmable Pulse Mode which allows practitioners to fine tune each treatment setting to a degree unattainable with other IPL systems. This function also enables practitioners to create a treatment profile that targets the individual and unique needs of the patient and can be consulted at the patient's next visit, helping to generate consistent results. Dr. Drosner also suggests practitioners always have two handpieces connected, as this helps to speed up treatments. Follow these post-treatment procedures to obtain the best results. To maintain the best results, both Dr. Brody and Dr. Drosner generally recommend that patients avoid sun exposure for 4-6 weeks after treatment, unless directed otherwise by the practitioner. In order to monitor the patient's recovery, both dermatologists encourage practitioners to schedule a patient's second appointment immediately following the first visit.
