New Ellipse FLEX provides light-based treatment alternative for a variety of conditions Candela introduced a new “flexible” intense pulsed light system at the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS) Annual Meeting on October 27th. The Ellipse Flex I²PL™ system, developed in close cooperation with leading skin researchers and dermatologists, is designed for skin rejuvenation by removing vascular lesions, pigmented lesions and acne.
The Ellipse Flex systems features a unique I²PL technology that ensures the light directed to the skin contains only the wavelengths required to perform the treatment, lowering the risk of side effects. Furthermore, the light from the Ellipse flash lamp heats up the cells in a way that safely destroys them. Another unique feature with the Ellipse Flex is a large spot hand-piece that provides fast treatments. It is also lightweight and ergonomically designed to minimize strain on the operator. To further enhance the Flex, a built-in computer calculates safe and effective treatment settings making the system user-friendly. “Not only does the Ellipse Flex treat more conditions, it treats them more safely than ever before,” said Gunnar Hallsson, sales director, Danish Dermatologic Development Corporation. “The Ellipse Flex is the IPL system with the best backing by clinical studies conducted by leading researchers.” The Ellipse I²PL and the Ellipse Flex are the only intense pulsed light systems to feature patent pending I²PL technology which removes “water absorbing” wavelengths from the output spectrum device. Both offer safe, effective and lasting solutions. With the older intense pulsed light technology, water absorbing wavelengths are absorbed everywhere in the skin creating a non-specific thermal injury, which can lead to an increased risk of side-effects. By eliminating these wavelengths, the Ellipse I²PL systems are able to more specifically deposit heat into the targeted structures of the skin. With the new technology, physicians are able to use only a thin layer of gel and active skin cooling is not required.
