The Serenity Pro System is an innovative approach for reducing pain during aesthetic laser or IPL treatments. The Serenity Pro relies on Pneumatic Skin Flattening Technology (PSF™). PSF works by creating a vacuum through a chamber that pushes blood away from the treatment site to block pain signals to the brain. This process relies on afferent inhibition of pain transmission to the vertebral column (also known as the “Gate Theory”). When skin receptors sense a suctioning effect, they transmit a fast neural signal to the vertebral column which blocks the pain nerve synaptic gap, therefore pain signals never reach the brain.
